Former hospital CEO to get more than $1M payout after losing job following Caribbean vacation

Dr. Tom Stewart is set to get a pay out of more than $1 million because the board of St. Joseph’s Health System approved the Caribbean vacation that caused him to lose his job as CEO.

“For the staff and the community it feels like a slap in the face,” said Natalie Mehra, executive director of the Ontario Health Coalition.

Stewart took a family trip to his private home in the Dominican Republic while on vacation from Dec. 18 to Jan. 5. On Jan. 7, he lost the job of leading the massive health system that includes hospitals, long-term care homes and home care in Hamilton, Niagara, Kitchener, Guelph and Brantford.

St. Joseph’s and Stewart “parted ways on a without-cause basis,” board chair Sister Anne Anderson said in a statement Monday evening. “His requested vacation was board approved. All terms of Dr. Stewart’s contract will be upheld.”

It’s not clear if the board approved Stewart’s international travel. His contract entitles him to 24 months’ pay over 24 months.

“It is wrong to provide generous compensation like this and the hospital ... should reconsider,” said Michael Hurley, president of the Ontario Council of Hospital Unions, which is a part of the Canadian Union of Public Employees union. “Dr. Stewart was in a position of leadership and he hurt his institution and should not be rewarded for that. St. Joe’s should not compound this by enriching someone who let the hospital down in a profound way.”

Stewart’s annual base salary was $552,500 with performance pay of $97,500. The golden handshake is calculated on the base salary. Certain employment-related benefits will also continue for 24 months.

Stewart resigned from boards that provide COVID-19 advice to the province immediately after the trip became public on Jan. 5. He was ousted as the CEO of Niagara Health on Jan. 6. On Jan. 7, he parted ways with the health system that includes St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton and St. Mary’s General Hospital in Kitchener.

St. Joseph’s has appointed experienced hospital leader Winnie Doyle as interim president and CEO as of Jan. 18. She was an executive at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton before announcing her retirement in July and interim president before Melissa Farrell was hired for the job in April 2019.

The payout ends early if Stewart obtains another job and states he must “diligently” search.

Great that hypocrite Mr.Stewart is fired now let's get the enabling Board Of St.Josephs fired or get them to resign. https://www.stjoes.ca/quality-and-performance/financial-accountability/2020-03-31-sjhh-fs.pdf 537 million of the 644 million dollar budget comes from Ont. taxpayers or about 84% yet Premier Ford says nothing about and refuses to comment on this issue at St.Josephs which is getting national attention for its failure of professional ethics by a rich Dr. and the waffling Board and its punting of a million bucks.

Consequently, the Church has always definitively taught—and will always teach—that masturbation (CCC 2352) is “an intrinsically and gravely disordered action.” And when committed with full knowledge and complete consent (CCC 1859), it is a mortal sin (see CCC 1854-64).

https://www.catholic.com/qa/why-masturbation-is-wrong The Proud Boys organization also believes that masturbation is so bad that it shouldn't be done more than once a month. Does the Sister and the Bishop agree that the rcc teaching on masturbation is a load of trollop and if not why are they running a modern hospital dependent on taxpayer dollars?

PH:905-522-1155, x. 33418 if you want to tell them to resign for their stupid, wasteful decision regarding Dr.Stewart. Allowing the travel is beyond moronic during a killer pandemic and the fact they just threw out a million dollars of taxpayer money during a time when health care dollars are pinched and health care is a constant crisis is unacceptable and should not be tolerated.

Why did Karen Eileen Gordon lose her govt job and why was she hired in the first place?

Looking for info on Donald Gordon the former spouse of Karen Eileen Gordon.

Karen Eileen Gordon went bankrupt in Victoria, B.C. in 2010. Three years after her divorce from Donald Gordon. She is anti-Semitic, hates Aboriginals, used to hate the Asians until her conversion to the Fifth Column after she shifted her political support to the Liberals. She has used over 200 different nyms in a desperate attempt to avoid kill filters over the years. She is a A.U.K. award winner and a chronic liar. Her best sexual experience was with Jiam Gohmeshi. She is in the bottom 20% of Canadians for assets. She is a total idiot.
