On this date in 1915, it was 90 degrees at Appleton City, Missouri - which was
29 degrees above average. Appleton City made it above 80 degrees on November 6
in 1914, 1915, 1945 and 1980, but not in the last 40 years. The trend is
downwards at a remarkable six degrees per century.

Skeptical Science? John Cook - Embarrassing Himself

Another fall from grace.

From Sourcewatch:

John Cook, on his website Skeptical Science, states that "the usual suspects in
natural climate change - solar variations, volcanoes, Milankovitch cycles - are
all conspicuous in their absence over the past three decades of warming.

Let's see:

Solar variations?

http://wattsupwiththat.com/2010/09/24/climate-science-solar-shock-and-awe/

Volcanoes? Ever heard of Pinatubo's temperature dip? FYI June 15, 1991

http://wattsupwiththat.com/2010/06/27/spencer-on-pinatubo-and-climate-
sensitivity/

Milankovitch Cycles? Ummm much longer time scale than three decades John.

http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/paleo/milankovitch.html

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

"Three decades"

Yet the smugness of believing you are somehow more knowledgeable and better
than others shows through loud and clear in this botched attempt at satire:

From the Skeptical Science "about" page:

About the author

Skeptical Science is maintained by John Cook. He studied physics at the
University of Queensland, Australia. After graduating, he majored in solar
physics in his post-grad honours year.

HE IS NOT A CLIMATE SCIENTIST.

Consequently, the science presented on Skeptical Science is not his own but
taken directly from the peer reviewed scientific literature.

Unless peer reviewed science is now accepting the ugly word "denier" in
manuscripts, I'd say the "science" of this article shown above comes from
John's own opinionated disdain of people who have a different viewpoint on the
science, and not any peer reviwed literature.

I at one time applauded John Cook for what I called "his scholarly demeanor".
Since he has clearly descended from that position (with his blog content from
John Bruno), I now withdraw any such praise. - Anthony

Addendum: I should add that what is doubly insulting to me is that the author
of the content on John Cook's website, John Bruno, came up to me after my
presentation in Brisbane, where he acted as compatriot to Ove Hoegh-Guldberg
(which John Bruno runs the website "climateshifts" of) who made a fool of
himself by abusing his rights as an audience member.

http://wattsupwiththat.com/2010/06/16/oz-report-footy-at-least-has-rules/

Bruno told me how he respected my tone and my right to say it. He also said to
me that I seemed "more open" than other people he's talked to that are on the
skeptical side.

John Bruno reiterated his moderate view of me in comments on that article:

John Bruno says:

Interesting post and comments. I am writing in to identify myself as the guy in
the green shirt. (I am a prof of marine ecology at UNC Chapel Hill, NC, USA,
http://www.brunolab.net).

Like I told Anthony, in person he was very calm and pleasant in his talk. A
nice change. I don't agree at all with his broader views about the patterns and
causes of climate change, but I really got a kick out of his slide show of
poorly (to put it lightly) placed weather stations. A very funny yet sad
commentary on something-not sure what.

I am also a big supporter (and consumer) of the type of citizen-science
that Anthony has been doing and promoting (and I don't mean that in a critical
way). A fair amount of the work I do relies on data from citizen volunteers
that do coral reef surveys, e.g., ReefCheck.

http://wattsupwiththat.com/2010/06/16/oz-report-footy-at-least-has-rules/
#comment-410975

And the kicker from the main article at SkepticalScience.com:

And yet, here he is today, calling me a "denier". "...as respectfully as is
done here at SkepticalScience" This is "respectfully"? I'd hate to see your
"disrespectful" Mr. Cook and Mr. Bruno. - Anthony

=====

The "97 per cent" claim is an utter nonsense. This report released today
by the Global Warming Policy Foundation explains exactly why.

First, that word "dangerous". This is a concept that was never mentioned
in the study responsible for that 97 per cent claim. The paper was written
by an Australian warmist activist called John Cook (and others). It drew
its conclusions having allegedly reviewed 12,000 papers on climate change
and found - so it claimed - that the vast majority of them supported the
"consensus" on global warming.

But here the watch-the-pea-under-the-thimble game begins. The "consensus"
which the Cook et al paper supports is so banal and trivial as to scarcely
be worth stating, viz:

* that carbon dioxide (CO2) is a greenhouse gas;

* that human activities have warmed the planet to some unspecified extent.

=====

In 2013, John Cook, an Australia-based blogger, and some of his friends
reviewed abstracts of peer-reviewed papers published from 1991 to 2011.
Mr. Cook reported that 97% of those who stated a position explicitly or
implicitly suggest that human activity is responsible for some warming.
His findings were published in Environmental Research Letters.

Mr. Cook's work was quickly debunked. In Science and Education in August
2013, for example, David R. Legates (a professor of geography at the
University of Delaware and former director of its Center for Climatic
Research) and three coauthors reviewed the same papers as did Mr. Cook and
found "only 41 papers-0.3 percent of all 11,944 abstracts or 1.0 percent
of the 4,014 expressing an opinion, and not 97.1 percent-had been found to
endorse" the claim that human activity is causing most of the current
warming. Elsewhere, climate scientists including Craig Idso, Nicola
Scafetta, Nir J. Shaviv and Nils- Axel Morner, whose research questions
the alleged consensus, protested that Mr. Cook ignored or misrepresented
their work.

Rigorous international surveys conducted by German scientists Dennis Bray
and Hans von Storch -most recently published in Environmental Science &
Policy in 2010-have found that most climate scientists disagree with the
consensus on key issues such as the reliability of climate data and
computer models. They do not believe that climate processes such as cloud
formation and precipitation are sufficiently understood to predict future
climate change.

Surveys of meteorologists repeatedly find a majority oppose the alleged
consensus. Only 39.5% of 1,854 American Meteorological Society members who
responded to a survey in 2012 said man-made global warming is dangerous.

Also Greenland's surface mass balance is way above normal. Kirye reports:
"The summer this year appears to have ended in #Greenland. The ice sheet
has gained 500 Gt since September 1, 2017, which is about 150 Gt above the
1981-2010 mean."

Greenland's SMB Gained 14 Gigatons Over The Past 2 Days Alone, Pushing This
Season Above The 1981-2010 Average

December 3, 2019

Despite decades of doom-and-gloom prophecies, Greenland's Ice Sheet is
currently GAINING monster amounts of snow - 14 gigatons over the past 2 days
alone (Dec 01 - Dec 02).

On December 01, 2019 Greenland's SMB gained 8 gigatons.

While on Dec 02, the ice sheet amassed another 6 gigatons.

According to climate alarmists, this simply shouldn't be happening in a warming
world.

Loading Image...

And I'm innocent of any NOAA-like cherry picks here - Dec 01 and 02 just happen
the latest two days. The truth is, since September, 2019 -the official start of
this season- SMB spikes above the 2/2.5 gigaton daily average have been a
regular occurrence in Greenland - in mid-November, for example, the sheet
gained a whopping 10 Gt in a single day.

All this sublimation has seen the Acc. SMB rise above the 1981-2010 average, as
visualized below in the Danish Meteorological Institute's (DMI) chart:

In addition, Total Snow Mass for the Northern Hemisphere continues to track
well-above average, which, again, simply isn't possible in a warming world:

This is how glaciers form.

Greenland is also melting very slowly - and has actually gained mass over
the last few days.

https://realclimatescience.com/wp-
content/uploads/2019/06/SMB_curves_LA_EN_20190624_shadow-810x1024.jpg

Greenland added a record breaking 14 gigatons to its SMB between Dec 01 and Dec
02 alone:

https://electroverse.net/greenlands-smb-gained-14-gigatons-over-the-past-2-
days/

While Russia continues to experience unseasonably large amounts of snow, with
the transcontinental nation now 100% covered.

In addition, Kazakhstan, Mongolia and China combined are 50% covered.

While Europe is sitting at approximately 40%.

Greenland's SMB Gained 6 Gigatons Yesterday + Northern Hemisphere Snow Mass
Sitting at 500 Gigatons ABOVE the Norm

Despite decades of doom-and-gloom prophecies, Greenland's Ice Sheet is
currently GAINING monster amounts of "mass"- 6 gigatons yesterday alone (March
28, 2020).

Crucial to the survival of a glacier is its surface mass balance (SMB) - the
difference between accumulation and ablation (sublimation and melting). Changes
in mass balance control a glacier's long-term behavior, and are its most
sensitive climate indicators (wikipedia.org).

On the back of substantial SMB gains over the past few years, the Greenland ice
sheet looks set to continue that trend in 2019-20. On March 28, 2020, the
world's largest island added a monster 6 gigatons to its ice sheet. According
to climate alarmists, this simply shouldn't be happening in a warming world. In
fact, it might as well not be happening-developments like this NEVER receive
MSM attention, meaning alarmists are NEVER privy to the full and un-alarming
picture...

polarportal.dk/

Since September, 2019 -the official start of the season- SMB spikes above the
2/2.5 gigaton daily average have been a regular occurrence. In mid-Nov, the
sheet gained a whopping 10 Gts in a single day. Hot on the heels of that,
during just the first two days of Dec, a 14 Gts gain was registered. And then
healthy 7 Gts gain was recorded on Feb 6.

All this sublimation has resulted in this season's Acc. SMB resting comfortably
within the 1981-2010 mean, as well as surpassing last year's gains; visualized
below in the Danish Meteorological Institute's chart:

polarportal.dk/en/greenland/surface-conditions/

In addition, Total Snow Mass for the Northern Hemisphere continues to track
WELL-above average with the latest data point (March 27) seeing NH snow at a
staggering 500+ gigatons above the norm-another real-world reality we were told
should be an impossibility by now: IPCC 2001: "Milder winter temperatures will
decrease heavy snowstorms..."
