"The family of Colten Boushie is taking Gerald Stanley, the Saskatchewan farmer
acquitted in Boushie's shooting death, to civil court, claiming he recklessly
caused Boushie's death.

In a statement of claim filed in Saskatoon's Court of Queen's Bench Wednesday,
Debbie Baptiste, Boushie's mother, claims Stanley negligently handled the gun
that fired and killed Boushie, used excessive force in shooting Boushie 'when he
presented no risk' and failed to contact 'any authorities on a timely basis'
after Boushie was wounded.

[...]

Baptiste and two of Boushie's brothers are also taking the RCMP to civil court.

The family claims that on the night Boushie was shot, the RCMP searched
Baptiste's home without reason and without a warrant, breaching the family's
charter rights and freedoms."

It's a damned shame that the family couldn't just face the fact that
they had raised a drunken car thief.

I'm sure they have. But saying drunken car thieves can be murdered is
like saying drunken sluts can be raped. Because the criminal justice
system fucked up overcharging this Stanley (criminal negligence resulting
in homicide was the charge to make stick) the Bushies are gonna take his
farm. Beats an "eye for an eye", anyways.

I suppose that means that one of the witnesses called will be the owner
of the farm about 30 km who had reported a car with a a flat tire and
four people who tried to steal one of his vehicles. He can explain about
the guy using a rifle to try to break into the vehicle and how the stock
broke and the fell onto his property. Then the can have the police
report about the rifle with no stock and a round in the chamber at the
Stanley farm. They have a witness who didn't see anything because he
claims that he was running away as fast as he could with bullets flying
by. Then there is the girl in the back seat who IDed Stanley as the
shooter but who turned out to have been passed out drunk in the back
seat. Good luck with the law suit. I suppose there is a chance that
they Stanley family can file a counter suit for the stress the event
caused them when the four drunk and armed thieves showed up on their
property intent on stealing a vehicle.

Amen to all that.

They should countersue. How much is defending against this suit going to cost
the Stanley family?

Maybe they should be happy with a healing circle. That is what they
think should be done with native offenders.
