The Federal Liberals want to lower the permitted blood-alcohol level from 0.08 grams to 0.05 in a feeble, disgusting attempt to lessen drunk-driving accidents which WILL rise when dope is legalized. They have NO reliable road-side test for marijuana intoxication, blood must be drawn and analyzed. This is similar to (toothless) laws in some American states where road-side alcohol testing is voluntary. What will happen is stoned while driving accidents will rise precipitously while drunk-driving accidents won't decrease notably as the move from 0.08 to 0.05 just isn't significant enough to matter. So their feeble gambit won't work.

I guess that is more evidence for my suggestion that the legal BAC is an
arbitrary number. It was originally adopted as a reasonable effort to
combat drinking and driving. It was difficult for cops to prove that a
drinking driver was actually intoxicated, so they came up with the BAC
level based on some sort of science that claimed that the average person
starts to show signs of impairment there.

I am sure that in the Liberal mind lowering the BAC level would be a
legitimate way of dealing with the possibility of impairment from other
drugs. The demonstrated a similar lapse of logic here in Ontario a few
years ago after a tragic alcohol related accident in which a number of
young people were killed. The new law imposed a 0 BAC limit on drivers
under the age of 22. The driver in this case of not .01 or .02. He was
shit faced drunk. He was way over the 0.08 limit.
