A carbon tax of ANY KIND is absolutely an idiotic concept in SOCIAL CONTROL.
It is an unfair tax and should never be implemented by any government.

bad thing, it should actually behave as if it believed that, instead of

Just curious - would that be US gallons or Imperial gallons? The reason
I asked is that last year I traded in my pickup truck for a hybrid car
(Malibu) and the mileage ranges between 45 to 51 mpg (US). Even during
the coldest part of the winter it was still well above 40 mpg.

Imperial ... I put the "litres / 100 km" figure in to avoid confusion ...
our previous car was 10 years old, and you could see the decline in fuel
efficiency as (in the words of Top Gear) many horsepower had escaped.

We should be implementing a CO2 tax on the _burning_ of carbon.
And it should be called that.

fossil fuels. People see how it works and are happy with it. The oil
producers endorse it as well.

Exactly. If the tax isn't high enough to get people to cut back, it
does NOTHING to reduce carbon. The stupidity of the tax is it is on
Natural gas. How are people in the cold areas of Canada supposed to
cut back on that?

There were some indications that it *was* successful, in some areas, but no
real proof. Forcing schools and hospitals to pay carbon taxes on the fossil
fuels they burn accomplishes what? It cuts amounts available for healthcare,
textbooks, school lunches etc.
