Recount ends tie vote in Calgary-Glenmore; Alberta NDP win seat

Make that 54 NDP ridings in Alberta.

The party has added another seat to its already comfortable majority after an Elections Alberta official recount which shows the party won Calgary-Glenmore.

On election night, Progressive Conservative incumbent Linda Johnson and NDP challenger Anam Kazim each ended up with 7,015 votes.

The official results released Friday show Kazim had 7,018 votes, six more than

Johnson. (ᵔᴥᵔ)

Kazim, who has a master’s degree in chemical and environmental engineering, said she is holding off celebrating.

“Based on the results of today I am the winner for now,” Kazim said.

“But at the same time the other party has the chance to appeal the results and request a judicial review. They have the next eight business days to consider that decision.”

Outgoing Premier Jim Prentice was still listed as the official winner in Calgary-Foothills, even though he immediately resigned on May 5 after the PC party’s devastating loss.

Elections Alberta said Prentice has not yet submitted written notice of his intention to step down in the riding. Once that happens, incoming premier Rachel Notley must call a byelection within six months.

Kazim’s victory gives the NDP 15 seats in Calgary and raises the number of women in the party caucus to 26.

The official results show the Wildrose won 21 seats. The PC’s have 10 seats, and the Alberta Party and Alberta Liberals one each.

I hear that all NDP politicians are alike. Seriously. What's in a
political party's name? Australian Liberals are right wingers.

And if you notice, most of Rachel Notley's policies match those of the
traditional, Peter Lougheed era. Everything from building a refinery to
supporting pipelines. She's about as close to Thomas Mulcair as an opossum
is to a rabbit.

Besides! Even Alberta's Rachel Notley and her crew can't possibly match the
socialist crap handouts (see health care) to the people of Alberta over the
last few years.

At least she's got one thing right. Alberta pays lower royalties on oil than
every major producer in the world. OPEC's royalty rates are double. Sure
they had to subsidize the oil sands for a while, but it was always worth 30%
less on the free market. And just to think, when it comes to wind power,
Alberta leads all of Canada! Thanks to the Conservatives.

'Alberta' doesn't pay the royalties. The oil companies do. Do you really want to continue . . . ?

You mean their hot air contributes to wind power? Now if we could only harness the same from Harper's Ottawa Cons.
